Candle Warmers Etc. Requests CPSC to Correct Inaccurate Product Description Used During Recent Recall

Candle Warmers Etc. has publicly announced a request made of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to correct the inaccurate use of the term “candle warmers” made during their February 1, 2012 product recall: “Christmas Tree Shops candle warmers—Fire hazard.” According to Candle Warmers Etc., the Nantucket Distributing product recall did not involve a “candle warmer” at all, but instead a “tea light (fragrance) warmer” sold for about $8 at the Christmas Tree Shops in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest from November through December 2011.

Candle Warmers Etc. is the patent holder of the original “candle warmer” plate, lamp and lantern, first introduced to the market 10 years ago. A “candle warmer” is an electronic product that involves no flame, instead using a halogen bulb or hot plate to quickly “melt” the candle to release the fragrance. The recent recall involved products using a flamed tea light to warm a decorative bowl designed to hold fragrant oil or wax melts.   “It’s a good / bad story,” explains Candle Warmers Etc. President Chris Barnes. “On the one hand, we’re thrilled that ‘candle warmers’ has entered mainstream vernacular. However, it is important that we call out this particular error as ‘candle warmers’ present the consumer with the safest option for enjoying and using candles in the home or workplace.”

Phillips Collection Wins 23rd Annual ARTS Award

Phillips Collection (phillipscollection.com) was awarded as the Top Accent Furniture Manufacturer in the industry for 2012 at the 23rd Annual Arts Awards, a gala event hosted in the Khmer Room at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas Texas. A company known for being on the forefront of design, Phillips Collection has become a prime resource for retailers and interior designs in both the residential and commercial markets. Company President and CEO, Mark Phillips, had this to share, "At Phillips Collection, we recognize that the scarcest commodity in our industry is great design. Everyone can build something. We want to build something meaningful that makes our clients say 'wow'." This is Phillips' second win in the Accent Furniture category. They have won Top Accessory Manufacturer twice in the past and Product Designer of the Year (Jason Phillips) in 2010.

The Accessories Resource Team (also known as A.R.T.) is an association for the decorative accessory segment of the home furnishings industry. A.R.T. is a community of creative companies and individuals working together to excite and motivate consumers to accessorize their homes.
Nominees and finalists for the awards are not required to exhibit in Dallas or belong to ART. Finalists are announced in August. Finalists' entries are due shortly before judging takes place in November at the Dallas Market Center.

Elegant and larger than life, many compare the Awards event with the Academy Awards, the winners are kept in suspense until that special evening. The 23rd gala was held at a new venue; at the Hilton Anatole Ballroom. To see a complete list of winners, visit: accessoriesresourceteam.org

President Obama meets Mei Xu, creator of Chesapeake Bay Candle and Blissliving Home, at the "Insourcing American Jobs" Forum hosted by the president on January 11. She was invited as one of the executives from companies that have chosen to build factories in the U.S. instead of abroad.

Founded by their father, Robert Peterson, the Midwest based manufacturer's rep organization serves retailers in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana from their Merchandise Mart showroom and field sales.
